Cornell Center for Material Research Seeks Industrial Partnerships

LAKE KATRINE, N.Y. (February 16, 2009) Hudson Valley Center for Innovation's (HVCFI) February 25th Entrepreneur's Breakfast Series will feature John Pochan Ph.D., visiting scientist at the Cornell Center for Material Research (CCMR).

Dr. Pochan will explain the collaborative partnerships offered by Cornell University to technology and manufacturing companies in the Hudson Valley.

The breakfast featuring Dr. Pochan will take place from 8:00 a.m. To 10 a.m. at the Hudson Valley Center for Innovation located at 703 Grant Avenue in Lake Katrine. A donation of $10 with a reservation at the door and $15 without is suggested. Please RSVP to specialevents@hvcfi.com

"John Pochan gained industrial research experience with companies such as S.C. Johnson and Sons, Eastman Kodak and the Xerox Corporation. Now, as a visiting scientist at Cornell University he is working to bring academic faculty and student brainpower to help promote economic development," said
Les Neumann, managing director of the Hudson Valley Center for Innovation.

The mission of CCMR’s Industrial Partnerships Program is to promote active cooperation between CCMR and industry to foster technology transfer, strengthen the links between university based research and its application, and promote economic development.

Dr. Pochan's role now is to visit companies and explain what services faculty and students from Cornell can offer. He is noted on 17 patents and has over 130 publications.

According to Neumann, Pochan is highly qualified to demonstrate to small businesses that Cornell can concretely help in solving problems related to materials development, properties and manufacturing.

"Harnessing the research power of academic institutions will be essential for companies in the Hudson Valley to remain competitive or excel to become cutting edge," said Neumann.

Entrepreneurs' Breakfast Series Focuses on NYSERDA Programs

LAKE KATRINE, N.Y. (January 12, 2009) Businesses and entrepreneurs seeking to tap into the emerging renewable energy market can learn how the New York State Energy Research Development Authority (NYSERDA) can assist with their efforts during a breakfast event at the Hudson Valley Center for Innovation (HVCFI).

Jeff Peterson from NYSERDA will present to HVCFI's Entrepreneurs Breakfast Series on Wednesday January 21st from 8:00-10:00 a.m. 703 Grant Avenue. Those wishing to attend should RSVP to specialevents@hvcfi.com. A donation of $10 with a reservation and $15 at the door is suggested.

Jeff Peterson, NYSERDA program manager for energy resources, will discuss how to grow clean energy businesses. Peterson manages the primary research program for renewable and natural gas resources for NYSERDA.

NYSERDA partners with businesses in New York to create new technologies that can be used around the world. Peterson's program supports workforce training as well as development of products and services in New York that meet customer demand for renewable energy around the world.

"There are a tremendous number of opportunities for entrepreneurs and businesses in our region to create products, services and support for the renewable energy market. This is a hot topic and the event is likely to be well attended," said Les Neumann, managing director of the Hudson Valley Center for Innovation.

On September 15, HVCFI announced the creation of the Cleantech Acceleration Program (CAP™) which is specifically designed to assist clean tech, green tech, alternative and renewable emerging energy enterprises bring their products or services to market in an accelerated time frame.

"NYSERDA plays a key role in the development of alternative and renewable energies developed right here in the Hudson Valley. Last fall, one of HVCFI's licensees, AeroCity LLC, received a $1 million grant from NYSERDA to continue research and development of its wind turbine designed for use in urban settings," said Neumann.

Jonathan Drapkin discusses technology, transportation, housing and taxes

LAKE KATRINE, N.Y. (APRIL 17, 2008) Jonathan Drapkin, president and CEO of the Pattern for Progress, will discuss a wide range of economic development issues facing the region during a breakfast meeting on Wednesday April 23, 2008 at the Hudson Valley Center for Innovation.

The talk is a part of HVCFI's monthly Entrepreneurs Breakfast Series held at 703 Grant Avenue in Lake Katrine from 8:00-10:00 a.m. A $10 donation is suggested for those who RSVP and $15 who do not reserve a spot. Mr. Drapkin will discuss balancing growth with conservation at a time when the local, state and national economy are uncertain. "We are facing a multitude of critical and complex issues from growth at Stewart Airport to attempts to control growth near Bellaeyre Mountain," said Drapkin, whose organization has tracked growth in the Hudson Valley for nearly 45 years.

"The population is aging and the middle class is moving out. Technology companies play an important role in the region's ability to survive and thrive," said Drapkin.

The timing could not be more perfect for Jonathan to speak at the Center for Innovation, said Les Neumann, managing director of the Hudson Valley Center for Innovation. "Jonathan sees and understands the assets and liabilities of the seven individual counties Patter for Progress serves," said Neumann.

Drapkin believes the successful stewardship of the region can be found by developing a regional vision for transportation, healthcare, education, training and housing.

Prism's patented technology maximizes sun power in cell to electricity generation

LAKE KATRINE, N.Y. (January 23, 2008) Prism Solar Technologies, Inc. (PST) has moved into 2,500 square of office space at the at the Hudson Valley Center for Innovation to grow its core team and develop a long-term manufacturing strategy.

"Prism and the Solar Energy Consortium are working closely together as it sets its long-term strategy," said Vincent Cozzolino, CEO the Solar Energy Consortium.

TESEC President and CEO Cozzolino to discuss solar impact on regional business

LAKE KATRINE, N.Y. (JANUARY 17, 2008) Vincent Cozzolino, president and CEO of the Solar Energy Consortium (TESEC), will be the featured speaker at the Hudson Valley Center for Innovations Entrepreneurs' Breakfast Seminar held on Wednesday January 23rd.

Cozzolino will be joined by SUNY New Paltz Dean and TSEC Core Leader John Harrington at the breakfast seminar from 8:00 a.m. To 10:00 a.m. at the Hudson Valley Center for Innovation located at 703 Grant Avenue in Lake Katrine.

TSEC is expected to provide 300 to 500 jobs in the initial phase and upwards of thousands of jobs in the region within the next several years. It will be headquartered in Kingston.
